Ewe is spoken on both sides of the Ghana and Togo border, and the border decides what a translation job actually is. Ghana keeps its civil records in English, Togo keeps its in French, and neither country registers anything in Ewe. Ewe Documents in English from Ghana and French from Togo

Ghana's Births and Deaths Registry issues in English under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 2020, so a Volta Region certificate goes to USCIS as it stands and 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) never bites on it. Togo runs its registers in French through the mairies and the centres d'état civil, so the acte de naissance, the marriage record and the school certificates are a French job. Volta Region Records in a Ghanaian Ewe File

One Ghanaian wrinkle catches people out and has nothing to do with language. After the referendum of December 2018, Ghana created the Oti Region on 15 February 2019 by Constitutional Instrument 112, carving it out of the northern part of the Volta Region. A family from Nkwanta or Krachi therefore holds an older certificate naming the Volta Region and a current address in the Oti Region, and to an officer reading quickly the two look like two different places.

The answer is not to update the old document. We reproduce the region exactly as the certificate prints it and add a note recording that the district was reassigned in 2019, which is the sort of one-line explanation that keeps a file moving. Certified Ewe Translation of Asylum Letters and Voice Notes

The material that is genuinely in Ewe arrives from the private side of a case. A letter from a mother in Kpando. A church statement about a marriage nobody registered. A WhatsApp thread with a brother, half of it voice notes. A declaration written out in Ewe before an attorney was retained. In asylum files this is often the only contemporaneous evidence the applicant has, so it gets translated in full and in order rather than summarized.

English into Ewe Translation for Clinics and Schools

Requests in this direction come from hospitals, school districts and benefits agencies with obligations under Title VI at 42 U.S.C. 2000d and, for federally funded health programs, 45 CFR 92.201. Consent forms, discharge instructions, notices to parents and eligibility letters are the usual list.

Two cautions before you commission the pages. Ghanaian Ewe speakers were schooled in English and often read English more easily than written Ewe, while Togolese Ewe speakers were schooled in French and may read neither comfortably. And many older speakers never learned the standard orthography at all. Where the point is being understood rather than filed, a recorded Ewe version, or an interpreter at the appointment, does more than a printed sheet. We will say which we think you need. Ewe Court and Asylum Interpreters, and What They Cost

Interpreting is the larger half of Ewe demand and most of it is Togolese asylum work, in front of an asylum officer or an immigration judge. Since 13 September 2023 an affirmative applicant has had to supply their own interpreter, so book early. No state certifies court interpreters in this language, so a judge qualifies the person on the record, and Prism supplies them as a private agency holding no court appointment.

One question decides the assignment: which town. A speaker from the Togolese coast around Lomé may actually want Gen, better known as Mina, which sits at the edge of the Ewe continuum rather than inside it, and inland Ewe and Mina cost each other effort a witness under cross-examination cannot spare.
