Twi is the everyday language of much of southern Ghana and, with Fante, one branch of Akan. The Census Bureau only began coding Akan separately from other African languages in the 2016 American Community Survey, so the published numbers understate how established these communities are in the Bronx, the Washington suburbs, Columbus, Worcester and Chicago.

Certified Twi Translation When Ghanaian Records Are Already in English

8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) applies to foreign-language documents, and a Ghanaian certificate in English is not one. Sending it for translation wastes money and, worse, produces a second version of a document the officer already has. We read what you send and quote only for the pages that actually carry Twi. That answer costs us work and keeps clients, which is the trade we prefer.

Ghanaian Birth Certificates and Registry Records in a Twi File

Ghana rewrote its rules with the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 2020 (Act 1027), which decentralized the Births and Deaths Registry and put registration in the hands of district registrars, who issue the certificate free of charge when a birth is registered. The Act also created a route for challenging a registration: on a written petition that a registration was obtained falsely or fraudulently, or that a certificate is being used improperly, the district registrar can call the parties to a hearing.

Twi, Akuapem and Fante in a Ghanaian Document

Akan has three literary traditions, not one. Akuapem became the prestige written form because it was the basis of the Akan Bible in the 1870s; Asante Twi is what most Ghanaians in the US speak; Fante is the coastal variety with its own spelling history. A common Twi-Fante orthography was worked out by the Akan Orthography Committee in 1978, and informal writers cheerfully ignore all of it.

In practice a handwritten letter mixes conventions, drops the letters ɛ and ɔ where a phone keyboard has no key for them, and spells the same word two ways on one page. We assign a translator who reads all three traditions and can hear the variety in a recording, and we say in the note which one the document appears to be in rather than pretending the question does not arise.

Akan Day Names on a Certified Twi Translation

Akan children are named for the day of the week they were born, which is why Kwame, Kofi, Akosua and Ama recur through Ghanaian records. The day name may be the name a family uses daily and not the one on the passport, or it may sit in a different position on each document. Add the ordinary spelling drift between Kwabena, Kobina and Kobena and a file can carry three versions of one person.

We spell to the travel document, print the source spelling as it stands, and set out the variants and their relationship in a translator’s note. Where a letter refers to someone only by a day name, we say so plainly instead of guessing at an identification. Attorneys filing for several family members should read immigration attorneys.

English to Twi Translation for Hospitals and Schools

The other direction is the growing half of Twi demand. Hospitals and clinics receiving federal financial assistance have language assistance obligations under 45 CFR 92.201, and recipients of federal funds generally sit under Title VI at 42 U.S.C. 2000d, which is what drives school districts and agencies to ask for Twi versions of consent forms, discharge instructions, notices to parents and benefits letters.

Ghana, the Apostille and Twi Document Translation

Ghana is not a contracting party to the Apostille Convention, so no Ghanaian apostille exists to be obtained. Authentication for countries that require it runs through the Ghanaian ministries and the receiving mission and is done in Ghana. For USCIS, a complete certified English translation of any non-English content is what the rule asks for, and nothing more. Twi Translation Prices and Turnaround

A short Twi statement or letter is normally delivered inside 24 hours once the quote is agreed. Handwritten material takes longer, because deciphering it is the work. Audio is quoted on length, and a recording with several speakers talking over each other is slower again.
