Translation and Interpreting Services in Winston-Salem

Interpreters for the Chestnut Street courthouse, the Ward Federal Building and Winston-Salem’s two big hospitals, with certified translation for USCIS.

Winston-Salem residents, law firms and clinics can have documents translated and certified by Prism Language Solutions without leaving the city, and book court, medical and USCIS interpreters from our nationwide network, with a Triad interpreter in person where possible and phone or video for the rest. Jobs are coordinated from Manhattan, where 100 Church Street is our only address. Spanish carries far more of the load here than in most North Carolina cities, with Mexican and Salvadoran records and hearings at the center, and Chinese and Arabic next.

About 15 percent of Winston-Salem residents speak Spanish at home, some 35,700 people aged five and over in the 2020-2024 American Community Survey, a higher share than Charlotte or Durham. Of about 28,300 foreign-born residents, Mexico accounts for roughly 10,300 and El Salvador for 2,600, well ahead of China (1,400), India (1,000), Colombia (940) and the Dominican Republic (810). Egypt, at about 500, is the largest Arabic-speaking birthplace in the count.

The Salvadoran figure is the one to plan around. It is large enough that Salvadoran civil records, identity documents and court matters are a routine part of the work, and it calls for interpreters who know the country’s legal and administrative vocabulary as well as Mexican usage.

Court Interpreters for the Forsyth County Courthouse on Chestnut Street

Forsyth County’s courts moved in October 2023. The new courthouse at 175 North Chestnut Street, next to the county government center, opened to the public on October 23 of that year and replaced the Hall of Justice at 200 North Main Street, which had served since 1974. Some directories and older notices still give the Main Street address. Send interpreters to Chestnut Street.

Forsyth is one of nine North Carolina counties with staff court interpreters, and Spanish is scheduled through the local language access coordinator; other languages are requested from the state Office of Language Access Services. None of that extends to a private attorney’s interviews, depositions or trial preparation, and staff interpreters cannot take that work, so firms book it with us. See court interpreting and translation for law firms.

Federal Court Interpreting at the Ward Federal Building

The Middle District of North Carolina sits in Winston-Salem at the Hiram H. Ward Federal Building, 251 North Main Street. Papers for filing are taken at the Greensboro clerk’s office, 324 West Market Street, not at the Winston-Salem building. Federal defense in Winston-Salem uses us for jail interviews and for transcription and translation of recorded calls and wiretaps, delivered as a written transcript with a signed certificate of accuracy.

Spanish Translation in Winston-Salem for Mexican and Salvadoran Records

Mexican actas and Salvadoran partidas de nacimiento are the core of Winston-Salem’s Spanish translation, followed by Colombian, Dominican, Honduran and Guatemalan documents. Each country formats its records differently, and the marginal notes on a Salvadoran birth record, recording a later recognition or name change, matter as much as the main entry. We translate all of it.

For a Spanish interpreter, tell us the client’s country. For Guatemalan clients, ask whether a Mayan language such as Mam would serve them better, and book a Mam interpreter if so.

Medical Interpreters for Winston-Salem Hospitals and Clinics

Winston-Salem has two of the largest hospitals in the state. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, the academic medical center and home of Wake Forest School of Medicine, is the largest employer in Forsyth County. Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, the flagship of a system headquartered in the city, has 921 beds.

Both manage language access for their own patients. The requests that reach an outside agency come from specialists, rehabilitation and dialysis clinics, home health providers and workers’ compensation examiners, each covered by 45 CFR 92.201. Research teams in the Innovation Quarter need consent forms and study materials translated too. See medical interpreting, medical translation and medical records translation.

USCIS Translation for Winston-Salem at the Charlotte Field Office

USCIS assigns Forsyth County ZIP codes to the Charlotte Field Office at 201 Regency Executive Park Drive, so green card and naturalization interviews for Winston-Salem take place in Charlotte. The Arlington Asylum Office handles affirmative asylum interviews for the state, and removal hearings by the Charlotte Immigration Court.

Per 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), any foreign-language document goes in with a full English translation and a translator’s signed certification of completeness and accuracy; the officer decides acceptance. Salvadoran identity cards, Mexican marriage records and police certificates are the common set. Our pages on USCIS translation, marriage certificate translation and police clearance translation explain each.

Chinese and Arabic Translation in Winston-Salem

Chinese translation in Winston-Salem is mostly academic and immigration paperwork, and a Mandarin interpreter covers hospital and school meetings. Arabic translation for Egyptian civil records needs the Egyptian name order kept intact across every document; an Arabic interpreter should be matched to the client’s country.

Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Salem College and Forsyth Technical Community College bring diploma translation and academic transcript translation, and headquarters companies such as Hanesbrands and Reynolds American send business translation.
