The Charlotte Immigration Court, at 5701 Executive Center Drive, Suite 400, is the only immigration court the Justice Department lists for North Carolina, so removal cases from Asheville to the coast end up on its docket. For the hearing itself, the court supplies the interpreter. Mecklenburg is one of nine North Carolina counties with staff court interpreters. The county’s language access coordinator schedules Spanish; the state Office of Language Access Services schedules every other language, and it notes that many of those interpreters fly in from out of state. The court covers proceedings. It does not fund interpreting for privately retained counsel outside the courtroom, staff interpreters are barred from that work, and a party filing a foreign-language exhibit pays for its certified translation unless the state is funding the representation. Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, an 874-bed academic hospital and Level I trauma center, is the system’s flagship; Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center is the other large hospital in the city. Vietnamese, Burmese and Russian Translation in Charlotte

About 6,200 Charlotte residents were born in Vietnam, and Vietnamese translation of household registration books, older civil records and court papers is steady work; a Vietnamese interpreter is a routine in-person booking. About 1,900 residents were born in Myanmar. For them, ask which language before you book.
