Prism Language Solutions translates Telugu documents into English for immigration, employment and academic use in the United States. Most of what we handle is a family or employment file: birth and marriage certificates from a municipal corporation, gram panchayat or district registrar, degree certificates and marks memoranda from the Telugu-state universities, and police clearance certificates. Nothing on the page is skipped, and a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy goes out with every file.

Telugu is among the fastest-growing home languages in the United States, and the demand behind these documents is unusual. Very little of it is asylum or humanitarian work. Most of it follows the employment-based route: an H-1B petition, an I-140, a spouse and children on dependent status, and a few years later a family petition that brings parents over. Recent American Community Survey estimates put Telugu at roughly 400,000 home speakers, concentrated around Dallas, the Bay Area, northern New Jersey, Seattle, Atlanta and Chicago.
The paperwork itself is mostly straightforward. The exception, and it catches people out constantly, is that the state named on an older certificate may not be the state the applicant was born in as far as any current map is concerned.

Telugu Birth Certificate Translation After the 2014 State Split
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 divided the old state in two with effect from 2 June 2014. Everything north and west of the new line became Telangana, the rest stayed Andhra Pradesh, and Hyderabad served as the capital of both for a transitional period. The records did not change retrospectively. A birth registered in Hyderabad, Warangal or Karimnagar in 1988 carries an Andhra Pradesh header and an Andhra Pradesh registrar's seal, while the same office issues under Telangana today.
This is where translations go wrong. The applicant writes Telangana on the form, the certificate says Andhra Pradesh, and an officer who does not know the history sees two different places. A translator who quietly modernizes the header has falsified the document. We reproduce the issuing authority, the state and the seal exactly as printed, and add a short translator's note explaining the 2014 reorganisation where the record predates it. That note costs nothing and it heads off a Request for Evidence.Certified Telugu Translation for USCIS
The governing rule is 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3): a full English translation of the foreign-language document, certified complete and accurate by someone competent to translate it. Telugu civil records are often bilingual, with a Telugu entry and an English column filled in separately, and sometimes handwritten at the panchayat level. Both languages get translated, every seal and endorsement included, and any disagreement between the columns is stated rather than resolved. The certificate, notarization and hard copies are described under certified translation.
- Birth certificates from a municipal corporation, gram panchayat or district registrar
- Marriage certificates and divorce decrees
- Degree certificates and consolidated marks memoranda
- Police clearance certificates for adjustment of status
- Bank statements and employment letters supporting a sponsorship
Telugu Degree and Marks Memorandum Translation for H-1B Filings
Academic records are the largest single category of Telugu work we see, and they arrive under time pressure because a petition deadline is attached. Degrees and consolidated marks memoranda come from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University and its constituent campuses, Osmania University, Andhra University and the colleges affiliated to them. Many are printed in English, in which case no translation is needed and we will tell you so rather than invoice for one.
What does need translating is a Telugu marks memorandum, a provisional certificate, a migration certificate or a transfer certificate. We render the subject names, maximum and obtained marks, and the class or division exactly as printed, and we do not convert a percentage into a grade point average. The evaluator decides equivalence. See academic transcript translation for how multi-semester records are quoted.
Telugu Name Transliteration on a Certified Document Translation
Telugu script romanizes in more than one way and the records reflect it. Srinivas and Sreenivas, Lakshmi and Laxmi, Krishna and Krisna: one person, several certificates, several spellings. The surname usually comes first in Telugu usage and is often reduced to an initial on a marks memorandum while the passport writes it out in full, so a degree in the name of K. Ramesh and a passport reading Ramesh Kalyan look like two people to anyone unfamiliar with the convention.
We spell the name in the translation to match the travel document on the filing, reproduce the source spelling as it appears, and set out the difference in a translator's note. Where an employer or an attorney is assembling a petition, sending the passport copy with the batch saves a revision. How we work with firms is on the immigration attorneys page.
Telugu Marriage Certificate and Police Clearance Translation
Marriage records from the two Telugu states come in more than one form: a registration under the Hindu Marriage Act, a Special Marriage Act certificate, or a later registration of a ceremony that happened years earlier. A late registration is not a problem in itself, but the translation has to show the date of the ceremony and the date of registration separately, because collapsing them into one date is exactly what an officer will query. Police clearance certificates are usually issued in English by the state police or the Regional Passport Office and need translating only when the endorsement on the reverse is in Telugu, which we check before quoting.
Apostille and Telugu Document Translation for Use Abroad
India joined the Apostille Convention in 2005, so an Indian public document going to another member country is apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs after state-level authentication, which for these records means the relevant department in Amaravati or Hyderabad, or a Sub-Divisional Magistrate. All of that happens in India, on the original. Our part begins afterwards: apostille first, then translate, so the apostille certificate is part of the translated set rather than a loose page arriving later. The sequence is set out under apostille translation.
Telugu Translation Cost and Turnaround
Short certified Telugu documents are quoted from around $24.95 per page as a US market guide, with continuous text priced per source word. A clean bilingual birth or marriage certificate normally comes back within 24 hours of a confirmed quote. A handwritten panchayat extract or a full set of semester marks memoranda takes two to four business days. Send the passport page with the documents and tell us the filing deadline; both change how we sequence the work. Guide figures sit on the pricing page, and your written quote settles the price before we start.
Ready to start? Send the document or the booking details through the quote form, call +1 (833) 282 8883, or email info@prismlinguistics.com. You get a fixed written price within 60 minutes during business hours.

My degree certificate is already in English. Do I still need a Telugu translation?
The spelling of my name differs between my marks memorandum and my passport. How do you handle that?
Can you certify a Telugu translation for a credential evaluation as well as for USCIS?
