Nauruan belongs to the Micronesian family and has resisted tidy classification for a century, partly because contact with neighboring languages left it looking unlike any single relative. Its written form carries a set of accented letters, and a spelling reform attempted in the 1930s never fully displaced what came before, so older and newer documents do not always look alike. That matters less here than it would elsewhere, because so little is written in Nauruan in the first place.

What a Nauruan Translation Is Actually For

Very nearly nothing in an ordinary Nauruan file needs translating, and we would rather tell you that before invoicing than after. Nauru registers births, marriages, deaths and divorces in English through its Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, so those certificates go into a USCIS filing, a probate file or a university application exactly as issued. Which leaves a narrow set of genuinely Nauruan documents, and they tend to be personal rather than official. That narrowness is the honest shape of this service, and a provider promising a broad Nauruan document practice is describing something that does not exist.

The items that do come to us are consistent: a handwritten letter between relatives, a statement or affidavit given in Nauruan, a church record, and land papers, which matter more on Nauru than the size of the island suggests because land there is held through family entitlements rather than open sale.

English into Nauruan Translation for Family on the Island

The reverse direction comes up more often than callers expect. A US letter, a medical summary, a statement of consent or a legal notice has to be sent to a relative on Nauru and understood there, and while most adults read English, the family wants the substance carried properly for an older reader.

We handle that with a Nauruan translator and the same signed certification, and we ask what the document is for before starting, because the register for a letter to a grandmother and the register for a formal notice are not the same. Where the reader is comfortable in English, we will say that a translation adds nothing, which is not a sentence that helps our invoice.
