A Maharashtra certificate carries a name in three parts, and the middle one changes when a woman marries. That single convention causes more Marathi document trouble than anything else in the file. Prism Language Solutions translates birth, marriage, education and land records from Maharashtra into certified English for USCIS, courts and credential evaluators, explains the name sequence in a translator's note, and supplies Marathi interpreters for the parent at the hospital who is not the person who booked the appointment.

Roughly 107,000 people spoke Marathi at home in the 2017 to 2021 American Community Survey, concentrated in central New Jersey, the Chicago suburbs, the Bay Area, the Texas metros, Seattle and Atlanta. Almost all of them are engineers, physicians, academics and their working-age families, and almost none of them needs help with English. The demand this page describes comes from their documents and from their parents.
Two shortcuts cause most of the damage. The first is treating a bilingual certificate as though the English half were the translation. It is not: the seals, the registrar's remarks and the handwritten entries are in Marathi, and a filing missing them is incomplete. The second is handing Marathi to a Hindi translator because both use Devanagari. That translator will read the page fluently and confidently, and will be wrong about the vocabulary that is not shared.- Certified translations prepared to meet USCIS requirements

Three Names on a Marathi Birth Certificate
A Maharashtrian name is given name, then father's given name, then surname. On marriage a woman's middle name conventionally becomes her husband's given name, and her surname changes too. So a woman's school leaving certificate and her marriage certificate legitimately carry two different names for the same person, and a US officer comparing them without explanation sees a discrepancy in the middle of a petition.
There is a newer wrinkle as well. Maharashtra has required the mother's name on government documents for people born on or after 1 May 2024, in the order given name, mother's name, father's name, surname. A family with children on both sides of that date will hold certificates built two different ways. We translate each document exactly as printed, carry the passport form of the name through the body, and set out the sequence and the reason for each change in a note. That note is the difference between a file that reads clearly and one that generates a Request for Evidence.
Certified Marathi Birth Certificate Translation from Maharashtra Registrars
The issuing authority printed on a Maharashtra record is a Municipal Corporation in the cities, a Gram Panchayat in the villages, or a Sub-Registrar in between, and the certificate follows a state template in Devanagari with English frequently printed alongside. We translate the whole page: the Marathi fields, the English fields, the seal text, the registrar's remarks and anything added by hand.
Where an older parent has no registered birth at all, which is common for births before 1970, the file rests on a non-availability certificate from the Municipal Corporation, a school leaving certificate carrying a date of birth, and affidavits from relatives. The State Department reciprocity schedule for India says as much about the availability of birth certificates, and 8 CFR 103.2(b)(2) is the rule for filing secondary evidence. We translate those as a set, keeping one spelling of each name across all three. See birth certificate translation.
Marathi Court Decrees and Land Records in a Legal Translation
Here is a point attorneys are rarely told. Maharashtra's district and family courts conduct business in Marathi even though the High Court writes in English, so a mutual consent divorce decree, a maintenance order or a police first information report comes to you in Devanagari Marathi while the appellate paperwork in the same matter is English. Property documents follow suit: a sale deed registered with the Sub-Registrar, a 7/12 land extract, a gazette notice of a name change.
Older land and family papers bring a further problem, the Modi script, which Marathi used for centuries and which a modern Devanagari reader cannot decode. It turns up in inheritance disputes with wills and deeds from before the middle of the last century. Tell us if a page looks unlike the rest and we assign accordingly. More at legal translation.
Marathi Degree and Transcript Translation for H-1B Petitions
Maharashtra universities issue most degrees and marksheets in English, so the sensible first step is to check what actually needs translating before ordering anything. What usually does is the Marathi furniture: a convocation endorsement, a seal, a duplicate-issue note, a correction slip, or a school certificate from the years before English became standard.
We render marks and the maximum exactly as printed and add a note on the scale rather than converting anything into an American grade. Equivalence is the credential evaluator's decision, and a translation that has quietly made it for them creates work rather than saving it. See academic transcript translation and diploma translation.
Marathi Interpreters for a Visiting Parent at the Hospital
The classic booking is a mother visiting on a tourist visa who ends up in an emergency department, then a cardiology or oncology consultation, then a discharge conversation no relative wants to interpret. Under federal funding rules the hospital owes that patient an interpreter at no cost, and most families find out too late to use it.
Ask for Marathi by name, and refuse Hindi politely. Marathi and Hindi share a script and a stock of Sanskrit vocabulary, and nothing beyond that. An older patient will follow a Hindi interpreter partway, nod, and lose the sentence about the medication. Where nobody can attend in person on the day, a Marathi interpreter by video is a better answer than a Hindi interpreter in the room. No state we are aware of certifies court interpreters in Marathi, including New Jersey and California, which publish long lists; a judge therefore qualifies the interpreter on the record. We take these bookings as a private agency, with no appointment from any court. See medical interpreting and USCIS interview interpreting.Marathi Translation Cost and Turnaround
Guide pricing for Marathi begins at roughly $24.95 per certified page, with anything longer priced by the source word. A bilingual Maharashtra certificate is priced on the Marathi content and the certification, not as though the whole page were untranslated. Modi script and long registered deeds are quoted after review. One and two page records are usually returned within 24 hours of a confirmed quote, and multi-page decrees take two to five business days. Bands are on the pricing page.
