Lunda Interpreter

A client may have been schooled in any of the three. That changes which second language might surface in a session, and it changes the paperwork, but it does not change the interpreter. Lunda Interpreter or Bemba Interpreter for Kazembe Families

Kazembe is the trap. The Mwata Kazembe kingdom in the Luapula valley is Lunda by history and lineage, yet its people took up Bemba in place of Chilunda generations ago, while the western Lunda of North-Western Province kept the language. A client who says Lunda and names Kazembe or the Luapula as home almost certainly needs a Bemba interpreter. Ask the home district, and if the answer is unclear we confirm on a short call.

Lunda Interpreter for Clients From Angola and the DRC

Neither Angola nor the DRC uses English officially, so an Angolan or Congolese Lunda speaker pushed through an interview in English is working at the furthest remove from their own words. That is where the damage is greatest. If the client prefers Portuguese or French for part of a session, we can add a Portuguese interpreter or a French interpreter; if Lunda is the language they want, we book Lunda and brief the interpreter on the country.

Lunda, Luvale and Kaonde Interpreters Are Separate Bookings

North-Western Province is home to three languages that outsiders treat as one. They are not. A request naming the province rather than the language leaves us guessing, and a guess is how a Lunda witness ends up with a Luvale interpreter or a Kaonda interpreter. Write down the word the client uses for their language and send it to us unchanged.

Lunda Interpreter at Asylum and Citizenship Interviews

USCIS officers weigh the answer they hear. Our Lunda interpreter gives it to them whole, in the first person, without rounding off an uncertain date or tidying a place name.

It is the applicant who supplies the interpreter at an affirmative asylum interview, and 8 CFR 208.9(g) bars the attorney, witnesses and representatives of the applicant's government. At a naturalization interview, an applicant exempt from the English requirement also brings an interpreter for the civics test. Lunda Court and Medical Interpreter by Video

In court, the judge qualifies a Lunda interpreter on the record, since no state examines interpreters in the language. Before the hearing we send the clerk the interpreter's background, including which country their Lunda comes from. See court interpreting.

In a hospital, federal funding carries the duty to provide a qualified interpreter at no charge, under 45 CFR 92.201.
